Short answerThe country by IP is a record in the database, not a GPS coordinate, and the difference may be due to an old georecord, a virtual node location, or a separate browser route. First compare the IP itself, then compare the country and the date of the base.

What does the site see?

The web server receives the address from which the HTTP connection came. In a proxy or tunnel, it can be the address of an intermediate node. The browser does not tell the site which country you selected in the third-party application and which route each program on the device uses.

We map the observed IP to the local DB-IP Lite database. A GPS request is not required, and the address is not sent to an external geoservice. The time zone is shown separately: it relates to the browser settings and does not serve as proof of the country of connection.

Why the results differ

The databases are updated at different times, the range of addresses may have moved to another operator, but the record has not yet changed, and the declared location of the service and the physical location of the infrastructure are not always the same, and finally, the application and the browser may use different routing rules.

If two services show the same IP, but different countries, the discrepancy may be in geobases. If the addresses are different, first check the measurement time, IPv4 or IPv6 and the route of the application. Do not change several parameters at once, otherwise the repeated result is difficult to interpret.

What does an unchanged IP mean?

The tester only confirmed that our server saw the same address again, and that doesn't prove that the VPN was disabled: the corporate connection can only send work resources to the tunnel, and the reverse is also true: the new address doesn't guarantee that all device traffic is protected the same way.

Local Launch and Support

When a Calcomera is launched on its computer, the server usually sees a loopback address, for it there is no public country, this is the expected behavior, and on the published site, the address is correctly transmitted through a configured trusted reverse proxy.

If the country assessment seems incorrect, save the verification time, the IP observed, and the date of the base, pass them to the service or the owner of the geobase, and do not send passwords or access configurations.
