Mouse double-clicking on a single click

First clarify what's going on

One click opens the file, the selection is lost, and the window unexpectedly expands. These are similar complaints, but their reasons are different. Folders can be opened with one click due to the system setting; File transfer may be interrupted by releasing the button. For the second case there is a separate retention test.

In the test below, press the left button about once per second and release it completely each time. Don't try to click as quickly as possible: an intentional double click will also look like a quick pair.

How to read the fast pairs counter

The service compares the intervals between clicks. The threshold is visible in the settings and can be changed. It is needed to search for suspicious events, and not to assign the status of “good” or “broken” to the device.

If you have done 30 conscious single clicks and several of them produce very close repeat events, save the result and repeat the series. If there are no quick pairs, but the problem is observed in Explorer, check the settings for opening items and double-clicking in the system.

The browser receives events that have already been processed. It does not measure the electrical contact of the switch and cannot determine whether the extra signal was created by the microswitch itself, the driver, or the remapping program.

Check before replacing the mouse

1. Connect the mouse to another USB port directly, without a hub. For a wireless model, check the charge and position of the receiver.
2. Temporarily disable your own macros and button remappings in the manufacturer's program, saving the profile.
3. Repeat the same slow series. Do not change the threshold between compared runs.
4. If possible, test the mouse on another computer and a different mouse on the first one.

The problem follows the device - this is a stronger argument for a hardware cause than one red counter. If the problem persists on a computer with different mice, first examine the software settings.

What to keep for warranty claims

Write down the model, connection method, number of conscious presses and number of quick repetitions. A short video showing the finger and the counter at the same time helps show the difference between physical action and events. In this case, the decision regarding the warranty is made by the seller or service center, and not by the online test.

Do not disassemble the device just to confirm the result if you are planning a warranty claim. If dragging is what's causing the problem, check holding first: this will provide a better description of the problem than "double clicking" for any strange behavior.
